Speaker for Feb. 99'
Josh Ketchum - Doing business in China.

From the President, Tony Patti

Well, it's a new year and I am proud to be the new President of the Nevada Inventors Association. I promise that I will do my best to continue thefine tradition set up by my predecessors. Unfortunately my first order of business will be to raise the dues. Since we went in the hole last year to the tune of about $700, our board decided to raise the dues to $35 per year for a regular member and to create a new membership category called commercial membership. Commercial members are members that have a product or service they wish to promote to our membership. Their annual dues will be $75 and will include free advertising (business card size) in the newsletter for the first year of membership and the opportunity to present their product or service to the members at a regular meeting. All this will take effect immediately!!! Now for some good news: I hope to bring more interesting speakers with the help of Charlie Ketchum, our illustrious program chairman, and we hope to have some professional speakers on the agenda but more on that in the future. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please don't hesitate to call or fax me directly.
Call 775 677-4824 or fax 677-4888 or E-mail jpatti6078@aol.com. I would
like to THANK YOU for your support.

Nominate the 1999 Inventor of the Year !

Each year the Nevada Technology Council, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to technological development in Nevada, selects an Inventor of the Year. The selected inventor receives an award from the Governor of Nevada for his or her invention and contributions to Nevada. This year Governor Kenny Guinn will present the award at the Governor's Industry Appreciation Luncheons in Las Vegas and Reno. The Inventor will also be inducted into the Nevada Inventor Hall of Fame, which is located on the campus of the University of Nevada in Reno. To be qualified for the Inventor of the Year Award a nominee must meet the following qualifications:

1. The nominee hasa patented invention;
2. The nominee is a native or resident of Nevada or a graduate of the
University and Community College System of Nevada; and

3. The invention must also have been commercialized to some degree. The selection committee will select the most outstanding inventor based upon the following criteria:

1. the commercial success of the invention;
2. The extent that the invention has brought industrialization and economic diversification to Nevada;

3. The technological advancement represented by the invention;

4. Community involvement of the nominee; and

5. Other accomplishments, awards, and contributions.

As the chairman of the selection committee, I invite you to nominate
yourself or any one you know who may be qualified. Do not be deterred if a
potential nominee's invention is not "high tech." All nominees and their
inventions will be considered regardless of their level of sophistication.
There is no required format for nominations, but a form is available as a
guide. Please provide as much information as you can and feel free to
submit any documents that may help us evaluate the nominee, such as a copy of the patent and a biography of the inventor. Please submit five copies of the nomination package. A copy will be distributed to each member of the selection committee. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 13, 1998.
