Dear Ken,
Well, you made your first move in the right direction by contacting someone other than a scam outfit with an 800
number on TV or Radio, or the back of a magazine. There are things you can do Ken that will get you started and
not cost any money. I don't mean to imply that inventing is not expensive, or that patents are cheap, because obviously
there are fees and expenses involved. I'm not selling anything, so at least the advice you get from me is free.
It's from years of experience and a desire to help inventors. First, visit my website and read the "help letter"
you will find on the front page. http://www.doncostar.com Just click on it to bring it up. If you need the Adobe
Acrobat Reader program to read it, just click on the little icon below the help letter link to download it free
onto your computer. That help letter has some solid information in it to get you started with the paper trail you
need to document your invention.
Do it before you file an application for a patent. Remember to not think of marketing too soon. It's OK to think
about it, but if you try to market your invention before you are protected you may very well give it away. It's
called "getting the cart before the horse." Companies do not buy ideas Ken, they buy patent rights. So
unless you have established a solid paper trail from invention to application you are taking a risk every time
you talk about it or show it to strangers, OK?
Subscribe to Inventors' Digest magazine right away, and obtain a copy of Pressman's book "Patent It Yourself"
as soon as you can. It will make you a better client if and when you go to a patent attorney for help. The patent
search is critical. and should be done before you spend any money. Check out my website and let me know if you
get stuck or need help.
The very best of luck. Remember -- keep your mouth shut, 'til you're protected,
Don Costar,
