As inventors we are often working on our own or in small teams. We all understand this can harbor tunnel vision which could result in a waste of time and money. The NIA provides two opportunities to the independent inventor to get assistance and garner feedback from other inventors. The first is in each monthly meeting there is approximately 30-60 minutes set aside to ask questions and ask for help in the invention process. These public meetings can be helpful but anything revealed is subject to public disclosure and could jeopardize patentability if no provisional patents or patent applications have been filed. This is why we also offer to NIA members a private detailed review with complete NDA coverage.
Public Invention Reviews
This process involves general discussion in the monthly meeting. There are a few meetings each year that focus on inventors talking about and gathering feedback about there invention
Private Invention Reviews (members only)
This process is offered by the Member Services Committee. In a private review, your concept will be reviewed by several people. You should expect to be challenged and be ready to present as if it were a shark tank. Be prepared with your own NDA for reviewers to sign. This is an intimate setting with the intent to move you to the next level and offer resources & short cuts through your process
